“If you seek a substantive engagement with the intellectual life of the University, I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to explore the Holy Land from the unique perspective that Notre Dame can provide.”
Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
President
University of Notre Dame
his week-long Mendoza College of Business program is designed to give Notre Dame faculty, staff, and associates a broad introduction to the Holy Land - past and present. With Notre Dame faculty director Greg Sterling (Dean of the Graduate School and Professor, Theology) and local experts, you will visit several of the most significant archaeological and historical sites in Israel.
Together we will learn about the history of Jerusalem, explore some of the most impressive architectural accomplishments of King Herod, and investigate the world of the residents of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered at that site. Further, we will survey the world of the historical Jesus, learn about the issues raised by modern settlements, and see first-hand some of the challenges that must be confronted as part of all efforts to establish peace.
Along with the program’s activities and site visits, there will be free time for you to pursue your own interests or just relax on the Tantur campus.
The base for this program is the Tantur Ecumenical Institute. The Institute has been administered by Notre Dame since 1972. Tantur is noted for the beauty of its grounds, its hospitality, and its location on a hilltop at the southern edge of Jerusalem overlooking the Judean hills and nearby Bethlehem through groves of olive, pine, and fruit trees.
I hope you will come with us to Tantur in October to experience the Holy Land in an extraordinary way.
